Antimicrobial Resistance Poses Global Threat

A recent article by The Guardian highlighted that antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to humanity.


A study reveals it has become a leading cause of death worldwide and is killing about 3,500 people every day!


In veterinary medicine we try to ensure our antimicrobial use is responsible.

RCVS Knowledge has launched the Antimicrobial Resistance Hub to help support veterinary professionals.


Executive Director of RCVS Knowledge, Chris Gush said:


“We are excited to be growing our online resources and enable vital conversations around responsible antimicrobial use to tackle AMR.”
“We must all work together as an industry to stop unnecessary use and tackle antimicrobial resistance across human, animal and environmental health from a One Health perspective.”


A new trial by the Savsnet - University of Liverpool Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET) has demonstrated effective strategies for reducing the prescription of ‘last resort’ antibiotics in veterinary practice.
