The Veterinary Voices Hiking Group laced up their boots this month to take part in a special two-day charity challenge in the beautiful – and blustery – Lake District.
As part of Vetlife’s “Active October” campaign, our team tackled not one but two iconic routes: the much-loved Catbells on day one, followed by the dramatic Coledale Horseshoe on day two. Both hikes delivered spectacular views, steep climbs, and unforgettable camaraderie.
Adding an extra twist to the challenge, Storm Amy swept across the fells during our adventure, bringing heavy rain and fierce winds that tested our stamina and teamwork. Despite the conditions, spirits stayed high and every member of the group dug deep to keep moving forward. The laughter, encouragement, and shared determination reminded us why group challenges like this are so powerful.
Most importantly, the hike was about more than mountains. Together we raised over £1,000 in support of Vetlife, a charity dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of everyone in the veterinary community. Active October is about encouraging activity, connection, and resilience – values that felt especially present as we reached the summits in the storm.
We’re hugely grateful to everyone who supported us with donations, encouragement, and kind words along the way. And to Vetlife, for the incredible work they do every day.
Here’s to more adventures, more connections, and continuing to walk together for a stronger veterinary community.

We have also made a donation to Keswick Mountain Rescue, who along with their fellow volunteers all over the Lake District and across the UK have made some astonishing rescues this weekend. Thank you, Mountain Rescue for all you do!
